Fervo Energy’s new workplace was designed to support the company’s rapid growth while preserving the entrepreneurial culture, energy, and sense of connection that defined its early years. The project called for a flexible, collaborative environment that could accommodate an expanding team while also creating a more sophisticated workplace capable of welcoming prospective employees, partners, and investors.

One of the primary challenges was balancing these two identities: maintaining the character and accessibility of a startup while establishing the confidence and presence of an emerging leader in the energy industry. This aligned with Fervo’s goal of creating a workplace that felt open, warm, energetic, collaborative, and distinctly “not corporate.”

The design concept, “Industrial Origins, Clean Future,” with the tagline “Honoring our roots. Forging a sustainable tomorrow,” became the foundation for the project. The concept reflects Fervo’s unique position within the energy industry, building upon technologies and expertise traditionally associated with oil and gas and applying them to the advancement of enhanced geothermal energy.

A major objective was to transform Fervo’s highly technical work into memorable architectural moments that could communicate the company’s story in an engaging and approachable way. At reception, a custom light fixture intersects with a sculptural moss wall composed of layered colors and textures. The installation abstractly represents the layers of earth that Fervo’s teams drill through during the geothermal process. From the moss wall, the illuminated line continues across the ceiling and down an adjacent wall, creating an abstract representation of the drilling path below the earth’s surface. The result is an immersive first impression that introduces visitors to Fervo’s work while creating a distinctive “wow” moment intended to resonate with both prospective talent and future investors.

The large work lounge and breakroom became another important cultural anchor. Designed as a flexible social hub, the space provides opportunities for employees to gather, work, eat, and connect throughout the day. Graphics within the space reference Fervo’s ambitious energy goals, while design elements pay homage to the company’s original office and preserve a connection to its startup beginnings.

Warm wood tones, exposed building systems, concrete, bold graphics, and refined finishes work together to create an environment that feels authentic and energetic without sacrificing sophistication.

A new monumental stair further supports the project’s emphasis on connection by physically and visually linking the two floors. Rather than allowing the workplace to function as separate levels, the stair encourages movement, visibility, and spontaneous interaction between teams. Throughout the project, architecture, branding, materials, and workplace strategy were used together to reinforce Fervo’s culture and mission. The completed space reflects a company in transition: one that has grown significantly but remains committed to the collaboration, innovation, grit, and personality that shaped its beginnings.
