Kurr Therapeutics (formally Cell Therapy) is a cancer research company that is developing anti-cancer therapies using its innovative chimeric antigen receptor natural killer T cell (CAR-NKT) therapy platform.

Kurr Therapeutic is committed to transforming the lives of patients with cancer and is leading the development of off-the-shelf engineered CAR-NKT cell therapies.

The project consists of relocating Kurr Therapeutics’ Houston research and development laboratory, staff workspace, conference room, and break-room into a 4,000 square foot space in a 1980s single-tenant research facility that wasn’t occupied for 2 years at 8515 Fannin Houston Texas.

Significant upgrades to the building interiors, new liquid nitrogen system, electrical tracing, and redistribution of the electrical services along with new emergency power distribution, a new acid waste management system were needed for the project.

In addition, the existing HVAC system, exhaust systems, and the associated rooftop equipment was removed to make way for new HVAC and exhaust systems, to accommodate the laboratory and office space areas. Coordination with the General Contractor and their subcontractor to modify and refinish the existing laboratory casework and hoods. One of the challenges was to work with the building owner, Kurr Therapeutics, and the General Contractor to sub-divide the single-tenant building electrical, plumbing and HVAC services into a multi-tenant with separate metered services. The project delivery method was Design/ Bid/ Build, where several general contractors were selected to bid on the project based on their qualifications and previous work experience with the project type.
